Love is just what the doc ordered on Love Island

The South London saviour on the television show Love Island is no longer nursing his wounds.

Dr Alex George, an A&E doctor at University Hospital, Lewisham, has been on the matchmaking ITV hit show for almost three weeks but, until this week, was yet to make the cut with any ladies on the island.

On Tuesday night’s episode, Dr George finally received the kiss of life from 20-year-old Geordie, Ellie Brown.

The 27-year-old said: “I think some people would think I’m crazy coming on Love Island. It’s completely different to working as an A&E doctor.

“But at the end of the day, it’s a great opportunity and I think ‘why not, let’s just go for it’.”

The show flies 10 young men and women out to Majorca where they are coupled with each other as contestants step forward for the islander they think is the most attractive.

Dr George had a bitter pill to swallow at the start of the show as none of the girls stepped forward for him.

The contestants are periodically recoupled during the eight weeks they are on the island, and whoever is left single is booted out.

The love doctor now has his lifeline with northern blonde bombshell Ellie.

But the 6ft 3in hunk claims he will not let himself get too carried away on the show.
Dr George said: “You are recorded 24-hours-a-day and I just want to make sure that I behave in the right way.

“I absolutely love my job. I’ve worked since the age of 13 to get there and I go to work every day and I genuinely enjoy it

“I would probably go back and do it part-time. If I could mix it with TV work I would. I think there is probably room for a new TV doctor.”

Dr George said he entered the show to find love after being single for three years.

His worst dating experience was a Tinder date, something any South Londoner under 30 can empathise with. He said: “I was on a Tinder date with a girl who turned up 40 minutes late – she turns up and she had such an attitude, ‘I want this and that’. You could just tell she had an arrogance about herself. It was an absolute turn-off.

“She only spoke about herself throughout the date. I thought I’d stick it out and was polite and paid the bill, but I thought to myself, ‘Think we’ll leave that there’.”

The show is aired every night on ITV2 except Saturdays.

The remaining couple at the end wins £50,000.
