PREVIEW: The formidable Slowthai at O2 Brixton Academy on March 30 and 31

Northampton crossover king Slowthai bursts with energy and self-awareness all over tracks which combine mainstream accessibility with pushing the envelope.

It’s a formidable combination.

He’s already collaborated with Denzel Curry, ASAP Rocky, James Blake, Disclosure and Skepta – no wonder he topped the UK album charts and the UK vinyl charts with second album ‘Tyron’.

It sold more than double the units of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Nothing Great About Britain’ three years ago.

He exposes the inner workings of his mind in ADHD, thus helping a lot of people out there with the same condition.

His Something to Look Forward To tour includes two nights at O2 Academy Brixton, March 30 and 31.

It will be no frills – he does not need them. An aggressive start featuring Enemy and Skepta collaboration Cancelled would be a good opening.

The man formerly known as Tyron Frampton will certainly switch pace from tiggerish to contemplation, during NHS and I Tried.

There is an arsenal of tracks, accumulated in little more than four years, from grime to punk-impassioned jollity.

Becoming a father and buying his first home since his last tour have clearly widened his pallette.

The closest he’ll come to a singalong is the James Blake collaboration Feel Away. But he seems to be growing as an artist while shedding none of his enthusiasm. That is some achievement.
