Furniture by Design Icons up for auction in South London

Roseberys Fine Art Auctioneers have this covered. On Tuesday 27th April, Roseberys located in South London, Lambeth, are proud to present the first of the bi-annual Design: 1860 to the Present-Day auctions.
The auction showcases Decorative Arts and Design from the Arts & Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods through to Post War and Contemporary design. Encompassing 271 lots in total, including glass, ceramics, silver, metal wares, sculpture, jewellery, lighting, rugs, textiles and furniture.
Here we showcase four statement furniture pieces within the sale, by design icons, catering for all budgets, that you can bid on to make your home sing!
On offer with an estimate of £2,500- £3,500 is a ‘670’ lounge chair and ‘671’ ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames, created in the 70s. ‘Why don’t we make an updated version of the old English club chair?’, was the comment by Charles Eames that launched the development of the Lounge Chair.
The aim was to please the desire for a perfectly proportioned chair that united ultimate comfort with quality materials and craftsmanship. Due to these qualities, the Lounge Chair has achieved the status of a classic in the history of modern furniture.
A more modern item of furniture on offer within the sale created circa 1989, is a prototype cherry wood and patinated steel coffee table, by British designer Tom Dixon.
After this original prototype, approximately only thirteen tables were subsequently produced with some details changed and sold to Joseph shops. This table comes with an estimate of £2,000-£3,000.
Elsewhere in the sale are eight striking design pieces by Piero Fornasetti. Featured within the collection by the Italian designer are chairs, screens, tables, umbrella stands and a cabinet, with prices starting from £700.
Finally, if witty, surreal designs are not to your taste, this sleek pair of bronze ‘Volubile’ Lamps, c.2006, by French designer Hervé Van Der Straeten are on offer with an estimate of £1,500- £2,500.
First known for his jewellery designs, Van der Straeten is now best known for his bold furniture and lighting, which blends various materials.
