The Imagine Children’s Festival is back at the Southbank Centre

A children’s festival bursting with music, storytelling, dance, crafts and free events will return to South London in February.

The Southbank Centre’s Imagine Children’s Festival is back at the Southbank Centre in Belvedere Road, South Bank, for its 22nd year, from February 7 to 17, with a programme of fun-filled experiences for the whole family to enjoy in the half-term.

More than 130 events have been packed into the 11 days, and 50 per cent of the festival will be completely free.

The festival is for children up to the age of 11 and their grown-ups.

Dance and performance is at the heart of the festival, with gravity-defying choreography and digital projections featuring in Starchitects: A Cosmic Adventure running between February 15 and 17.

The Sticky Dance, between February 7 and 9, invites audiences to an engaging and colourful performance installation, and on February 12, The River will premiere the Bamboozle Theatre Company’s newest show for disabled children with complex needs.

This show introduces children to a range of river animals, from salmon to herons, and even mystical creatures such as the water goddess, with live music and instruments with tactile vibrations.

The events are organised to be relaxed, allowing visitors to come and go as they chose – and no need to worry about making noise in the audience.

There will also be specific sensory-adapted shows, BSL interpreted and non-verbal performances.

Ruth Hardie, head of public programming at the Southbank Centre, said: “Imagine is about children and families being creative together.

“Through a range of innovative performances, literature events, music and more, we work with artists to share inspiring stories and ideas and encourage children to play, imagine and express themselves.

“There really is something magical for everyone to discover in the programme this February half-term.”
