‘The Thamesmead anthem’: Community choir release collaborative track
A community choir is set to release a new track dedicated to their South London neighbourhood.
Dropping on Friday, Hometown Pride is a collaboration between the Thamesmead Community Choir and Thamesmead based artists J Cocoa, Kei the Artist, Jamie Zubairi and Jules, funded by Arts Council England.
The group debuted their “Thamesmead anthem” to an audience of more than 6000, on the main stage at Thamesmead Festival in Southmere Park, last August.
Now, the group will continue to spread their hometown pride through the official audio release.
Songwriter and artist, Jules, said: “Thamesmead has given me so much – so this anthem dedicated to the place we live and I grew up in allows us all to give something back to the town and its people, of whom we are so proud.”
With the initial idea for the track bubbling away since 2022, the singles development has been documented by videographer Riordan Tyson and independent label Crossness Records.
Hometown Pride is performed by the 15-member-strong Thamesmead Community Choir alongside the four songwriters.
It is a representation of Thamesmead through lyrical storytelling and catchy melodies over an Afrobeats-led production.
