Dorothy & Marshall… a classic British menu with locally sourced ingredients

Fancy having dinner in the grandeur of Bromley Old Town Hall?

You’ll be able to do just that before the year is out.

The Grade-II listed building will soon be home to an all-day dining restaurant celebrating a classic British menu, with locally-sourced ingredients from London and Kent.

Leading the kitchen team at Dorothy & Marshall is local chef Ralph Jones, who has worked with some of the world’s greatest chefs, including Chris Galvin, Marco Pierre White, Garry Hollihead and Eric Chavot.

His dishes include braised beef short rib with Guinness and black treacle, bone marrow mash and red cabbage, as well as baby artichoke, heritage tomatoes with Ragstone goat’s cheese, puff pastry tart and a golden Tate & Lyle treacle tart and flamed baked Alaska with sloe gin blackberry sauce.

Word is that the cocktail list will be something rather special.

There’s no firm opening date as yet, so watch this space for confirmation.

Croydon doesn’t have many seasonal menus, so the visit to The Store always feels like a treat – a voyage of discovery.

The autumn dining menu has recently been launched and promises seasonal plates, bar snacks and cheese.

Seared duck breast, fondant potato, pumpkin puree, rainbow chard with a coffee and maple jus and roasted garlic and thyme corn fed chicken kiev are just two examples of dishes that look set to leave the diner wanting more.

This menu is available from Wednesday to Saturday, 6pm until 9pm.

On Thursday and Friday evenings you can bag two courses for £24 or three courses for £29.

Salt cod fritter, with garlic aioli and Korean fried cauliflower are two standout starters, and butternut and artichoke risotto looks like the perfect winter warmer.

Sides of truffle and parmesan fries and wasabi mash potato aren’t included, but worth the extra spend.

Wednesday night is steak frites time at The Store, with bavette, French fries and chimichurri or vegan roasted romanesco and a glass of wine or a beer for £17.

Weekends are non-stop at the restaurant – brunch from 11am to 4pm, dinner from 6pm and a DJ from 9pm.

There is no timing when it comes to cocktails, which are made all day from open until close.

On Sunday, the only thing worth doing is staying warm and tucking into a roast.
