Enjoy a guilty pleasure at the Hash Hut, Croydon

Who knew that such a guilty pleasure could be pimped up within an inch of its life, making it yet more pleasurable?

Hash Hut has taken the humble hash brown and done just that, creating seven loaded dishes.

I’ve often found myself wondering what Boxpark Croydon could add to its street food portfolio – this is it.

The search is over.

There’s no hiding the fact that this is not slimming fayre but you know what they say about a little bit of what you fancy.

The problem here is that none of it is little and you’ll take a fancy to all of it.

The dishes are uber indulgent and perhaps best enjoyed when starving and to really appreciate the decadence, a hangover wouldn’t harm.

Mad Head Mac Top (£9) oozed with cheese, but strangely moreish.

I took one look at four cheese macaroni, smoked bacon, crispy onions and chives, of course on a bed of hash browns, and thought it would be a one-mouthful wonder, fearing it would be too rich.

If only that were true but I had to put the breaks on before polishing off the lot because there were others to try.

Katsu Brown – panko chicken thigh with requisite curry sauce, sesame slaw, fresh chilli and spring onion was the favourite for me (£8).

Each dish is a main course portion when solo but dining with friends, it’s rather nice to share a few.

Miso BBQ Pulled Pork also worked well, lightening the hash brown base.

Hash Hut is at the beginning of its three-month pop up stint so get it while you can.
