Food & Drink: Get it delivered – Nothing plain about porridge
There are few breakfasts more nourishing, not to mention comforting than porridge.
Considered the absolute best start to the day, a bowl full of this filling, energy-packed and slow-releasing carb-laden staple can simply not be beaten.
Or so I thought, that was until I stumbled upon the Great British Porridge Company, which has elevated the humble porridge oat to another level by introducing three yummy flavours – red berry and pumpkin seed, blueberry & banana and strawberry & peanut butter.
Wholly natural, no added sugar, vegan, gluten and dairy free, and instant so just a bit of hot water and breakfast is served. Personally, half water and half milk will give a richer finish.
It’s also good for making flapjacks or adding to crumble topping.
Priced £3.99 for a 385g bag and available from Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
For mash get Idahoan
We have a few store cupboard recommendations this week.
Here are some great products to have on hand, reducing the need for fresh ingredients, because let’s face it there are no guarantees over what’ll be in our shopping baskets.
Put food snobbery and packet prejudice to one side and embrace Idahoan Perfect Mash.
Instant mash was last seen in the 1980s or at least so I thought but is one heck of a handy ingredient and you don’t have to worry about sprouting potatoes again!
Brilliant for topping shepherd’s pie and fish pie, it comes in six different flavours, including classic, buttery and garlic.
Also use it as a base for a variety of recipes, such as herby fishcakes or breakfast potato cakes.
