Good breakfast spots are a rare find in London these days. Luckily for me, my neighbourhood cafe is one of the good guys.
Open for three years, Woodland Cafe arrived in a blaze of glory, raising the game of London Road, Norbury.
It promised to cook everything from scratch, baking many of the cakes, pastries, and cookies in-house.
This strategy continues today.
Woodland is a community cafe, and on any given day, you can find a cross section of residents.
Actually, people from all over have flocked here.
Those with an eye for aesthetics, particularly the Instagram generation, come here, making the most of photo opportunities.
The swing by the front door, beautifully decorated with foliage and flowers, is a big draw.
People of all ages have made Woodland their home from home.
Its trade of regulars is a lovely sight in an ever-increasing transient world. The owner and manager both greet many of the customers by name.
Breakfast is served all day. Eggs are cooked all the usual ways or go for a full fry up.
All meat served is halal but there are turkey rashers for the traditionalist. If it’s brunchtime, there’s a list of mocktails to choose from. Booze-free but flavourful.
Woodland is known for its thick pancake stacks. Lighter breakfast options include granola and coconut bowl – tasty and filling.
There are vegan versions of all dishes.
