‘It will be one big party’: Davido on upcoming South London concert

By Sarah Tetteh

Davido is set to light up South London with his most sensational concert to date – as he declares the capital one of his absolute favourite places to perform and praises young talent in the city.

In an exclusive chat with South London Press, the superstar has opened up about just what fans can expect when he hits our shores later this month for his sell-out concert at the iconic O2 Arena in Greenwich.

“It will be one big party,” says the Afrobeats king. “I love London. There is so much talent here it’s unbelievable. If there’s one thing you guys know how to do, that is to party. So South London, get ready. I’m coming.”

True to his word, Davido, who has been instrumental in bringing afrobeats music into the mainstream, will be pulling out all the stops to make sure this will be his most dazzling performance to date.

His celeb pals will no doubt be out in force to support him, with the likes of Naomi Campbell, One Direction’s Liam Payne, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, and Vogue legend Edward Enninful all tipped to join the party where there will be a special reception.

Davido has teased some very special guests will bless the crowd and join him onstage at the O2 too, and fans are already all over the internet guessing who they could be.

Nigerian star Davido has teamed up with giants including Drake and Chris Brown to name a few,  with their recent tune Sensational becoming a viral hit and taking the world by storm.

The hitmaker has collaborated with the world’s biggest stars and was handpicked by Beyonce for her Lion King take-over.

Beyonce’s Lion King: The Gift album showed just how much African music has been impacting on American artists and continues to do so today, and among British artists too.

Davido and his peers including Burna Boy and Wiz Kid, whose collaboration with Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran, Peru, was another dancefloor banger, are all taking their country’s music way beyond its borders, and breaking boundaries as they go.

Award-winning Davido was born in the US and schooled there. The trend-setter spends his time between Lagos and the US as he takes his artistry to the next level.

So what’s next for the superstar? Some say with Davido’s big personality and many talents, he could be tipped for Hollywood glory.

One thing is for sure, when he hits London, we’d better make sure we’re not Unavailable for what promises to be the hottest show in town.

Davido headlines The O2, London on Sunday, January 28.
