Helping children have a merry Christmas this year

On average, two children a minute contact Childline.

For these children, Christmas can be the worst time of the year.

Every day, our Childline counsellors hear stories of abuse, neglect, self-harm, and anxiety, things no child should have to deal with.

These contacts don’t stop on Christmas Day.

Children still need help and support on what should be the most magical day of the year.

Whatever a child is facing at Christmas, Childline is here for them.

But we can’t do it alone.

The NSPCC relies on public donations for the majority of its income, which is why this Christmas we’re calling on people in South London to support the NSPCC and Childline to ensure we can be there for children whenever they need us.

There are so many ways people can get involved and support the NSPCC this festive season.

Our Walk for Children fundraiser is taking place on Wednesday, December 21.

Whether people walk alone or in a group, everybody’s invited to join the 5km walk during the longest night of the year.

That night landmarks across the country, including Battersea power station and County Hall will light up green.

You can plan your walks around a landmark in your area and share any photos using #WalkforChildren.

Readers can sign up and see a list of participating landmarks by searching Walk for Children on the NSPCC website.

In addition, you could get yourself a ticket to our Merry Little Christmas concert in Chelsea on December 13 to see acts including Michael Ball and Ellen Williams.

People can also order an NSPCC Letter from Santa to bring some Christmas magic to the little ones in your life.

Every donation for an NSPCC Letter from Santa will go towards Childline.

Everyone at the South London Press thanks you for your continued support.

Former Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has encouraged everyone in the country who can afford to do so to buy a newspaper, and told the Downing Street press briefing:

“A FREE COUNTRY NEEDS A FREE PRESS, AND THE NEWSPAPERS OF OUR COUNTRY ARE UNDER SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL PRESSURE”

If you can afford to do so, we would be so grateful if you can make a donation which will allow us to continue to bring stories to you, both in print and online. Or please make cheques payable to “MSI Media Limited” and send by post to South London Press, Unit 112, 160 Bromley Road, Catford, London SE6 2NZ
