No right turn off High Road is a council money-maker

I’ve lived in Streatham for 47 years, born and raised. I have never felt more of a need to write to my local paper SLP until now.

I was issued a Penalty Charge Notice  (£130) for driving down a ‘pop up’ ‘No Entry’ road entering from Streatham High Road.

On September 3, in Streatham High Road, heading south towards Norbury I took the right turn into Glencairn Road as I have for 30 years.

Firstly, Glencairn has as long as I remember been a two-way street so a ‘no right’ sign would be the first obvious sign to put up for the safety of pedestrians, cars and cyclists.

Secondly, as you approach the turning to Glencairn Road from the High Road, the painted white road sign is totally faded so not legible enough to read while driving.

Thirdly, when it was safe to turn into the side road, Glencairn from the busy high road I was confronted with 15 visible road signs!

None of the old signs have been removed which makes entering Glencairn Road very unclear as they are contradictory. If this was a safety aspect or concern and not a money-making scheme then the Lambeth camera car there to catch people out would be better used to warn motorists of the change not penalise them.

This PCN is grossly unfair and the no entry into Glencairn is only generating revenue due to its calculated implementation.

Just to top it off, when I tried to appeal the PCN online with the independent body, they only have nine pre-set options to appeal, of which none were applicable to my situation.

It all seems very flawed and after hours of contesting it seems I now need to pay it or go to court! So many locals feel the same now.
