Pollution-producing cars are painting bleak future
Parents and kids have used advertising posters across South London to post drawings by children asking the world’s biggest carmaker, Toyota, to change course over its plan to ramp up petrol and diesel car sales this year to a record high.
Toyota’s business plan will damage children’s health via 11 million new exhaust pipes, and make climate change worse.
The company is on course to manufacture more than double the number of combustion engine vehicles that would be compatible with the Paris Agreement.
Why now? Toyota, which emits more CO2 than oil giant BP, had its annual shareholders meeting last month in Tokyo.
Investors raised concerns over the firm’s anti-climate lobbying.
However, instead of a change of course, Toyota is sticking to its plans to increase sales of fossil-fuel burning combustion engine vehicles to a record high of over 11 million this financial year, meaning another year of rising CO2 emissions from the company.
Far from moving towards “carbon neutrality”, the company in reality is moving in the opposite direction.
