Where is my mate from the 1970s, Steve Butler?
I would love to be reunited with an old friend of mine who worked with me at New Cross on the Permanent Way Railway in 1970s.
His name was Stephen Butler, his address in 1977 was 13 Kennington Park Place.
At the time I lived in Deptford. Steve and myself were part of 638 Gang – a permanent Way Gang that was based at New Cross railway station and Norwood Junction, and we worked anywhere from London to Brighton doing track maintenance and track laying.
It was hard work, working in all conditions sometimes miles from anywhere, and some unusual ways of getting home when no normal trains were running – a lift back to New Cross in a coal truck whereby the driver used to slow down at New Cross and we all had to jump out, which was pretty dangerous, thinking back.
Steve and I were the best of friends. When I decided to move to Bristol on a transfer and new house – a chance not to be missed – it was then I lost touch with Steve.
I have tried all different ways of finding him, and all I have is his address in 1977 – 13 Kennington Park Place.
It would be great to find Steve.
