Remember with St Christopher’s this Christmas
St Christopher’s annual Christmas remembrance event has always provided people with the opportunity to come together and remember loved ones.
However, Covid-19 restrictions mean the hospice will be unable to welcome the community in person this year.
Despite this, the local charity will be offering an opportunity for people to come together virtually as they hold their first ever online version of the annual Remembering with St Christopher’s event.
The event will be led by Andrew Goodhead, the Spiritual Care Lead at St Christopher’s, and will be broadcast live online, so that wherever you are, you can come together with others to remember the people we love who are no longer with us.
There will be musical performances and reflective readings, time for personal reflection and a moment for everyone to light a candle to remember a loved one.
Everyone is welcome, whatever your background and beliefs. Whether you lost someone unexpectedly due to Covid-19, were unable to attend the funeral of someone important to you, or would like to think of someone you love who died less recently, this is an opportunity to reflect and remember.
One of the people who will be joining the event is Isabel Potter, who explains why she will be Remembering with St Christopher’s this Christmas.
She said: “My extraordinary mum, Sian Evans, died in March this year. She had breast cancer that spread to her liver and bones.
“Although we knew she was dying, the reality is still so hard to cope with. She was such a vibrant, wonderful mum, granny and friend. And she’s missed so much by so many.
“But although she’s gone, she lives on in all our memories.
“The incredible doctors and nurses from St Christopher’s Hospice helped mum to stay at home on her last night, surrounded by her family, and free from pain.
They gave us the time and space to say goodbye.”
During the event everyone joins together to light their candle while St Christopher’s ignite the twinkling lights on their Christmas tree.
Each light honours the memory of those important people who are no longer with us at this poignant time of year.
You can dedicate one of these lights for your loved one and ensure their memory is shining at St Christopher’s this Christmas.
If you make your dedication before November 22, St Christopher’s can send you a remembrance pack to accompany the event, which includes a programme and a candle to light during the service.
