Swimmers set to raise money for homelessness with event at Tooting Lido

South Londoners are set to take an icy plunge this weekend to raise money for a homelessness charity.

One of Crisis’s annual Icebreaker Challenge events is taking place on Saturday, January 15 at Tooting Lido.

People can choose between swimming either one width in the outdoor pool or teaming up in a group of four for the relay challenge, all in aid of Crisis. 

This is the tenth year of the Icebreaker Challenge, with money raised going to support Crisis’ work to help end homelessness. 

Matt Downie, Chief Executive of Crisis, said: “The Icebreaker Challenge has been going strong for ten years and we’re grateful to all the people who have taken part over that time to raise money to support Crisis. 

“The Icebreaker events are a fantastic way for people to show their support for ending homelessness while setting themselves a challenge and sharing the experience with friends. 

“Winter is a particularly difficult time for people experiencing homelessness and the pandemic has highlighted how vital it is for everyone to have a safe and secure home.

“By joining in with the Icebreaker Challenge, either at an event or in your own time, you’ll be helping Crisis to support people to leave homelessness behind for good.” 

Crisis helps people experiencing homelessness all year round, supporting individuals every step of the way to leave it behind for good. 

The £25 registration fee for the Icebreaker Challenge events will help Crisis provide services such as counselling and healthcare advice for people experiencing homelessness.
