AI technology meets immersive theatre in Swamp Motel’s production of Saint Jude
When AI technology meets theatre for a truly immersive experience it is bound to be a night to remember, as was proved by the smash hit success of Swamp Motel’s production The Drop, which saw just under 3,000 audiences thrown into London’s criminal world, writes Molly Pavord.
This year Swamp Motel are back with their new production Saint Jude which will take place in a mysterious government building in Westminster from January 17 – March 18.
Saint Jude is an establishment nestled between The Ministry of Justice and The Department of Health & Social Care, which aims to bring about communication with patients in irreversible, lifelong comas.
Their mission statement is: “Our innovative software reads the brain patterns of sleeping coma patients, before transforming them into speech in a split second, allowing you to converse with minds we once thought were lost.
Now, Saint Jude are looking for willing participants to join the programme and explore the minds of their sleepers.”
With cutting-edge AI delivered by Charisma, audiences will have the chance to uncover the mystery behind each patient’s stories and interact with AI-powered and characters and live actors.
Guy Gadney from Charisma said: “Immersive theatre and Charisma’s artificial intelligence both share the same goal, to pioneer new forms of entertainment by casting audiences inside the stories themselves.
“This means that participants can speak to the characters, influence their emotions, and then even change the story itself.”
Each audience member will be connected to a Sleeper once they’ve taken their place at an individual console within the Saint Jude office.
Swamp Motel Founders and Creative Directors Clem Garritty and Ollie Jones said: “At Swamp Motel, we aim to create genre-bending, technologically advanced theatre, and love creating exhilarating, interactive experiences that blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
