Classic comedy Abigail’s Party at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley

The new tour of Mike Leigh’s classic comedy, Abigail’s Party will run at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley from Wednesday, April 19 to Saturday, April 22.

Abigail’s party is a tragi-comedy focused on class, relationships and gender roles in 1970s Britain.

Michael Cabot, the founder and artistic director of London Classic Theatre, directs Rebecca Birch (Beverly), Jo Castleton (Susan), Alice De-Warrenne (Angela), George Readshaw (Tony) and Tom Richardson(Laurence).

Rebecca Birch said: “I think British theatre hadn’t quite seen a play like this before.

“The fact that the original cast improvised for 10 weeks to find these people, these gorgeously real yet ridiculous characters, is a testament to what became a very relatable and uncomfortable-at-times play.”

Abigail’s Party premièred at Hampstead Theatre in 1977, with the role of Beverly originally played by Alison Steadman.
