Funding awarded through Arts Council to South London cultural organisations

Funding of £7,270,520 has been awarded through the Arts Council to support 69 cultural organisations in South London.

This vital funding through the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund will support theatres, galleries, performance groups, arts organisations and local venues to reopen and recover.

Arts Council England has been working on two funding programmes for the third round of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.

Continuity support grants adding up to £6,678,407 will be awarded to 62 previous recipients in South London, helping organisations survive and allowing them to resume programmes and events.

In addition to this, seven organisations in South London have been awarded grants totalling £592,113 from the Emergency Resource Support strand of funding so far, with more applications undergoing assessment over the coming weeks.

Looking to help those facing imminent risks, and open to those who haven’t received funding in previous rounds, grants from this rolling programme are protecting jobs by saving important arts and cultural organisations.

Organisations receiving funding in South London include contemporary dance company Rambert, the Young Vic Company, the Omnibus Theatre in Clapham and the Candoco Dance Company.

Culture Secretary, Nadine Dorries, said: “Culture is for everyone, no matter who they are and where they’re from. With our unprecedented Culture Recovery Fund, we are supporting our much-loved arts and cultural organisations so they can continue to bring culture to communities the length and breadth of the country, supporting jobs, boosting local economies and inspiring people.”

Dame Judi Dench, who is a patron of Omnibus Theatre, said: “Now here is some very good news. Small theatres such as Omnibus are the lifeblood of our industry, and this funding will be vital in continuing their brilliant work.”
