Vanessa: I’m powering on…

By Sarah Tetteh

She’s been the inspiration behind many women after building up her life again after a painful split, but at the Power of a Man Awards, Vanessa Feltz’s message was clear – that “she’s powering on.”
At the sensational awards that shone a light on men in our community achieving incredible things in film, music, philanthropy and making the world a better place for young men, Vanessa was blown away by the talent and inspirational stories at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms where guests were treated to a Richard Blackwood stand-up comedy show.
Vanessa, who hosted the night alongside award-winning film director and event founder Fredi Nwaka, told the South London Press Showbiz: “What a fabulous night celebrating all these powerful men, and my mantra for next year will be to power on. To soldier on with my family by my side, to move forward.
“That’s all we can do. I’ve got lots of exciting things coming up with my new book Vanessa Bares All, it’s very honest. I’ve been blown away by the talent tonight, it has been extraordinary. What a wonderful evening,”
Fredi said: “It’s an honour. What a night it has been. We are just putting in that work trying to support some of these guys out here.”
The event took place on Sunday and also celebrated International Men’s Day to recognise men of colour doing great things in and for our communities.
Guests including TV show Casualty’s Charles Venn, EastEnders’ Mohammed George, Beverley Knight, Damage, Stefan Pierre, Miss Nations International Ali-Mai, were treated to epic performances from the singer Terri Walker after a sumptuous two-course meal of jerk chicken, rice and peas, followed by apple and berry crumble.
The event was hot off the heels of the incredibly successful Power of a Woman Awards, celebrating the achievements of phenomenal men of colour in the UK.
The star-studded ceremony recognised accomplishments spanning literature, industry, education, sport, commerce and entertainment, and aimed to inspire and uplift the community by being trailblazers and defining what it means to have the ‘Power Of A Man.’
