A hauntingly good show coming to Clapham for Halloween

The true story of Britain’s strangest ever house haunting is coming to the stage to Clapham – just streets away from where the supernatural events were said to have happened.

BBC podcast The Battersea Poltergeist told the story of the mysterious happenings at the house in South London – attracting millions of listeners.

Now the show is coming to The Clapham Grand on Halloween to tell the story live.

The Hitchens family who lived at 63 Wycliffe Road were said to have been haunted for 12 years by a poltergeist – who they called Donald.

The events started in 1956 when 15 year old Shirley Hitchens found a silver key on her pillow, which no one from her family had ever seen before.

The haunting began to escalate, with objects flying through the air, loud unexplained noises and even fires breaking out in the house.

Strange noises came from inside the walls and Shirley heard scratching on her headboard while she slept.

The events continued even after Shirley had moved to Bognor Regis with her husband.

At the height of the hauntings, it became a major national news story, with newspaper headlines about strange noises, flying objects, exorcisms and ghostly communication.

An attempt was even made to contact the poltergeist on live prime-time TV on the BBC and it was discussed by the Home Secretary in the House of Commons.

The Battersea Poltergeist – Live will feature the show’s creator, writer and journalist Danny Robins and other guest experts from the podcast.

They’ll delve deeper into this paranormal cold case, bringing the investigation to life on stage, sharing exclusive footage of Shirley Hitchings and other witnesses, and revealing some new evidence.

There will be a Q&A with Mr Robins and his team of experts.

The Battersea Poltergeist – Live will be at The Clapham Grand on October 31.
