Be immersed in the city of Seoul

The ancient myths, legends, and a millennium-spanning history of Seoul are coming to London this autumn.

Opening today, against the backdrop of the Victorian tunnels at Borough Yards, in Stoney Street, visitors will be able to weave through a display of the heritage and culture of Seoul.

Seoul-based artist Gyoungtae Hong and director Younsook Im have created the display to give Londoners a taste of South Korea’s capital from the iconic gate Gwanghwamun to the shopping district of Myeongdong.

Visitors will see how ancient and modern Korean cultures create Seoul’s hive of activity.

There will be 12 large-scale installations.

In one area, 631 glowing lights represent each year throughout the history of Seoul, from the Joseon dynasty to modern-day.

Further into the exhibition, the city’s energetic rhythm will be recreated with neon lights, music, and sirens.

The digital technology behind the exhibition is built from over 8,000 images and sound systems to make sure you are well and truly immersed in the 1,240m square space.

Mr Hong said: “Going beyond traditional dichotomies, this experience plays with light and shadow, and bridges past, present and future to illuminate a path to a brighter tomorrow. Delight is a story about the coexistence of duality.”

Visit borough Yards after October 13 to be immersed in the city of Seoul.
