Famous playwright, David Wood comes to Lewisham
The playwright who adapted children’s favourite book The Tiger Who Came To Tea for the stage is coming to Lewisham.
David Wood, pictured, is participating in Mother Bear, a one-day family funday being held at Bonus Pastor College, Winlaton Road, Downham on August 4.
The event is organised by Lewisham charity The Brun Bear Foundation and is being held to support of a mix of community causes, including fully funding 5,000 Wellbeing Wallets for pregnant mothers at University Hospital Lewisham and a further 5,000 wallets for pregnant mothers at The Princess Royal University Hospital.
These wallets contain essential information for mothers-to-be and have had a great impact on preventing stillbirth at 30 hospital trusts across the UK.
Mr Wood’s achievements include adapting Judith Kerr’s classic picture book. The theatre play has returned to the West End for a summer season, celebrating its 10th anniversary on stage and 50 years as Britain’s best-loved picture book.
He will be delivering two book readings as part of a programme that will run alongside an exhibition and art display and all-day crèche.
In all, there will be eight zones designed to appeal to mums, dads and their children.
These include zones on pregnancy and parenthood, healthy living, managing work-life balance and an entire session for entrepreneur mothers. There is also a dad’s zone.
Another highlight will include a presentation from Lewisham’s Vietnamese community on the Moon Festival, an occasion dedicated to children.
Mother Bear takes place on Saturday, August 4 from 11am until 5pm.
