Food & Drink: The Northcote Pub, Battersea

In Battersea’s much-loved Northcote Road lies a cracker of a pub – and it’s looking better than ever, courtesy of a full makeover.

The almost 140-year-old pub has been effortlessly refreshed and is welcoming back locals and sports fans once again.

Creative cocktails, craft beers and an array of gins and wines sit alongside seasonal menus that include seasonal British fare and bountiful Sunday lunches.

So, whether you’re after a spot to catch up with friends, a place to watch a big game or a great local for a drink – the Northcote has you covered.

Behind the bar, the drinks list includes a carefully curated selection of interesting wines, local craft beers and lagers, as well as handcrafted cocktails, mixed by Northcote’s expert bar staff.

With a team of passionate chefs in the kitchen, the all-day menu is full of pub classics and contemporary plates, using only the freshest British produce, locally sourced where possible.

Brunch dishes include Lincolnshire poacher, pickles and slaw and root vegetable crisps.

Grab a seat screen-side and graze on sharers of mixed sliders and the pub’s rather famous ox cheek tatties of King Edward potato crisps, braised ox cheek, smoked beans, cheese sauce and pepper salsa, all washed down with a pint of the good stuff.

Larger plates come in the form of classics such as beer-battered cod with triple-cooked chips and the Northcote burger.

Come Sundays, leisurely dining and hearty roasts are what it’s all about at Northcote.

Delicious meats feature alongside vegetarian options, or ask your server about Northcote’s sharers, such as the 28-day aged Cote de Boeuf complete with bottomless Yorkshire puds and gravy, perfect for sharing family-style.
