Live music: Upcoming jazz gigs at Peckham Levels
Occupying a former multi-storey car park on Rye Lane since 2017, Peckham Levels is one of London’s most exciting venues to experience live music.
The bustling venue hosts live gigs and club nights from a 450-standing capacity to smaller, more low-key spaces.
With homegrown talent, alongside emerging artists and collaborations, Peckham Levels will host the best of the South east London jazz scene over the next two months with ticket prices ranging from £9 to £15.
Every Wednesday, Steam Down brings together a rotating cast of established special guests with the best young musicians emerging onto the scene.
The artist collective have garnered a loyal community following for their longform improvisations filled with screeching horn notes, pounding kick drums and breathtaking solo’s.
Now coming up to their eighth anniversary, the #SDWEEKLY is one of the truly independent success stories of the SE London jazz scene.
On April 4, Peckham Levels will kick off a brand new monthly jazz residency from NYJO.
Each month will see a one-off collaboration between the NYJO ensemble and mainstays from London’s jazz and improvised music scene, starting with a collaboration with members of the epic Levitation Orchestra.
Expect bold, original music, boundary-pushing improvisation and an open jam to close the night.
On April 5, the arts centre will welcome an immersive night of Brazilian music, performed live, in-the-round by the ace Beloved George Band and guests.
Following on from their first session at Peckham Levels back in December, Jambu – the Brazilian Music Jam Session – is coming back South east for a post-carnival special.
Rounding things up on April 12, drummer and composer Nadav Schneerson will launch his debut album ‘Sheva’.
An alumnus of Tomorrow’s Warriors – Nadav has come up alongside some of the finest jazz talent in London, blending contemporary jazz styles with various influences from around the Middle East.
