The ‘Artistic Gangster’ and his pilgrimage to Greenwich

Greenwich-born street artist Nathan Bowen has been painting London since 2009.

Now, his work will adorn the walls of the Edit Gallery, in Greenwich Market, as part of an exhibition titled THE PiLGRiMAGE TO GREENWiCH.

Running until April 6, the showcase will reveal a brand new body of work by Mr Bowen alongside a series of collaborations with the Daiwun School of Art – a collective he’s a part of.

The self described “Artistic Gangster”, who spent his childhood in Catford, Lewisham, began painting outdoors after graduating from Central St Martins in 2008.

Moving from the streets of Shoreditch, Oxford Street and Soho before returning to Lewisham, Mr Bowen has embellished the city with his signature pieces.

Working across walls and road signs he sees the streets as a canvas for creativity, describing his practice as the “reincarnation” of neglected public spaces.

Mr Bowen’s art carries strong messages – whether he is paying tribute to the NHS and conveying anti-war sentiments or celebrating famous icons.

His staple demon characters will feature in the exhibition alongside new works inspired by the unique energy of Greenwich.

THE PiLGRiMAGE TO GREENWiCH will showcase his playful experimentation with a variety of mediums, including cardboard, metal road signs, and more.

THE PiLGRiMAGE TO GREENWiCH will run at Edit Gallery, in Greenwich Market, from March 28 until April 6. To find out more, visit: https://www.editart.co.uk/
