The perfect day out this Easter
With its vast array of theatre shows, museums and galleries – it’s little wonder London is known as the hub of culture and arts. Regina Motalib has selected some of the best attractions our vibrant city has to offer families for a perfect day out – even for the most discerning of young visitors!
The National Gallery
Home to some of the most famous paintings in the world, including Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers – The National Gallery is a firm favourite for a family day out.
Young visitors from age seven, can explore its paintings utilising a free mobile-based experience.
Using AR technology, this family trail app allows young gallery visitors help guide a fictitious Keeper of Paintings to find a lost ‘Palette of Perception’ – a magical object with special gems that gives them ‘powers’ – to engage with the paintings digitally.
As they move through the gallery responding to the app’s story, a new digital world is revealed where visitors can solve puzzles, find hidden secrets, and collect the gems connected to the paintings.
Highlights include the birds in several Turner and Claude Lorrain pictures in Room 36 and the falling newspapers in several pictures in Central Hall.
‘The Keeper of Paintings and the Palette of Perception’ app can be downloaded for free from iOS and Android stores from the 11th April 2022.

The Globe Theatre
The Macbeth performance on at The Globe Theatre is a perfect introduction to Shakespeare’s works for young people.
This annual production is a 90-minute full-scale performance designed for a younger audience.
The great wooden theatre is a wonderful way to get youngsters interested in the works of the Bard.
As part of it’s Telling Tales Programme, The interactive Family workshops are highly recommended. Shakespeare’s Globe theatre actors lead the workshop which consist of a tour of the amazing theatre space as well as the opportunity to practice acting out a scene from a Shakespeare play.

The Natural History Museum
One of three major museums on Kensington’s Exhibition Road, The Natural History Museum may be famous for its dinosaur skeletons and stunning architecture – but there is always so much more on offer for families.
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition explores the natural world in all its fragility and diversity.
See great creatures such as apes, tigers , gorillas and albatrosses captured in 100 captivating photographs which tell a story of a planet under pressure.
Peer through the lens of some of the world’s best wildlife photographers with insights from museum scientists and experts. This perfectly complements the free display Our Broken Planet: How We Got Here and Ways to Fix It.

The Saatchi Gallery
The Saatchi Gallery is famous for launching the careers of talented young creatives, and showcasing contemporary art.
It’s a family favourite and an ideal way to spend a day – the exhibits are interesting and diverse – whether it’s paintings, photograph, sculptures or other artefacts – The Saatchi Gallery delivers a memorable experience for all ages.
The current must-see exhibition is the RHS Botanical Art & Photography show. This stunning display consists of botanical artwork and photography by global artists, all competing for an RHS medal.
If you haven’t seen it already, another family-favourite exhibition is the Bob Marley One Love Experience.
A family-friendly treat for the Bob Marley fans and one which is sure to be awe inspiring for visitors who may not know much about the reggae legend.

The Victoria & Albert Museum
The V&A is known for its immense collection focusing on art and design. One of it’s latest exhibits will delight Peter Rabbit fans.
In collaboration with the National Trust, the delightful Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature exhibition takes visitors on a journey to discover Beatrix Potter’s life as a scientist and conservationist.

Playful, interactive and perfect for all ages, Drawn to Nature explores the places and animals that inspired her most beloved characters.
Showcasing more than 200 personal objects including artworks, rarely seen letters, manuscripts, sketches, coded diaries, family photographs, this is the first exhibition to tell the complete life story of one of the best-loved authors of children’s fiction in the 20th century.
