The Ultimate Londoner Livestream Quiz event

On Sunday 6 September, households will be invited to test their knowledge of the city by competing in a live streamed quiz, hosted by comedian and proud Londoner Dane Baptiste, to crown the ‘Ultimate Londoner’.

The City of London Corporation, the Mayor of London, London’s international promotional agency London & Partners and the Londonist are supporting London’s many iconic venues, institutions and businesses that have struggled during the lockdown. The Ultimate Londoner quiz will delve into the depths and breadth of the city’s history and culture – from its unique independent businesses and weird museum objects to its late-night cabarets and kebab shops – inspiring those taking part to get back out safely to see the city and help raise funds for businesses as they reopen their doors.

Local residents, students, families, and fans of London from all over the world are invited to take part in a series of questions and challenges inspired by the energy and creativity of the city. The creative submissions will be judged by Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries, and receive prizes such as an overnight stay and afternoon tea at 5* hotel The Ned, as well as an official certificate acknowledging them as ‘The Ultimate Londoner’.

Sign-up is free, with the option to donate to the Mayor of London’s ‘Pay it Forward’ campaign, to help businesses raise vital funds and stay afloat, rebuild, and recover from the impact of COVID-19. Sign up via www.ourcitytogether.london/quiz to participate in the live quiz which will be streamed on YouTube at 19:00 on Sunday 6 September.

The Ultimate Londoner Quiz forms part of the City of London Corporation’s ‘Our City Together’ collaborative initiative and runs in partnership with London & Partners, Londonist, and the Mayor of London’s office to celebrate the capital’s culture and show that London Is Open.

Dane Baptiste, stand-up comedian and host said:
“London is home to the best comedy circuit in the world; despite it being disrupted by COVID. It’s been tough but I think if we can survive crime, traffic and the heat from the London Underground then we will endure. This is the city with the best clubs, food, museums and people, but who is the Ultimate Londoner? I challenge anyone who thinks they can win what will be the best and friendliest postcode war ever!”

Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries, said:
“Culture is London’s DNA, with our capital boasting some of the greatest venues in the world. Sadly many of these businesses have been severely hit by the impact of Covid-19, but as more start to open up, I hope this quiz will inspire Londoners to go and safely explore our city, and help raise much-needed funds for those who still can’t open their doors.”

William Russell, Lord Mayor of the City of London, said:
“We are excited to be working with our key partners to test Londoners’ knowledge of their city and remind us all of what it has to offer. The Square Mile’s world-class museums and cultural institutions are adept at telling the story of London’s rich and varied history, and we look forward to welcoming people back, both, virtually and in person, to celebrate our common values and heritage.”

Jeff Horton, Owner of music venue THE 100 CLUB said:
“It’s great to be part of a quiz that reminds Londoners how important independent businesses and venues are to the city – we’re still here, carrying on despite the setbacks of the last few months and preparing to reopen. I think people desperately want to return safely and support local businesses by visiting the places they’ve missed!”
