Two Shakespearean classics, Romeo & Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing at the Severndroog Castle, Greenwich
A Shakespearean festival will give an audience a unique experience as two of the Bard’s most famous plays are performed in a gothic castle.
Groundlings theatre brings two Shakespeare classics, Romeo & Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing to the Severndroog Castle in Castle Wood, Greenwich.
Built in 1784 the castle is one of the highest viewing points in London.
Summer nights will be brought alive with Shakespeare’s most famous story of love at first sight and his sparkling comedy of misunderstandings in the historic Grade-II listed 18th century building nestled in ancient woodland.
Both plays are presented in traditional Tudor dress, with Romeo & Juliet also played by an all-male cast as it would have been in Shakespeare’s time.
Artistic director of Groundlings Theatre, Richard Stride, said: “Nineteen years ago, Groundlings Theatre Company started as a Shakespeare touring company, and in the years after we travelled the UK performing to some wonderful audiences.
This summer we are proud to return to our roots and go back on the road and are looking forward to sharing summer nights this year with
new audiences and some beautiful venues.”
Romeo & Juliet will be performed on August 6, 8 and 10 and Much Ado About Nothing on August 7, 9 and 11, with both starting at 7.30pm.
Both shows are open air and tickets can be booked at www.groundlings.co.uk or box office on 02392 737370.
