What’s On: Aisha Khan and Her Rajahs performing at The Pheasantry, Kings Road, Chelsea

A roots music diva will be performing with her band The Rajahs at the Pheasantry in the King’s Road, Chelsea, as part of the new Pizza Express Live Vintage Rhythms series of events starting on February 7.

Warming up for her forthcoming tour in Catalonia later in the month, Aisha Khan is a jazz and blues singer who continues to delight audiences with her unique brand of sass and sophistication.

With more than two decades of experience, she combines outstanding original material with powerful cover versions and performs them all with soul and talent.

Equal Parts sultry jazz and rhythm and blues, Aisha communicates heartbreak, joy and a range of emotions in between.

Aisha says her earliest influences incorporated everything from Elvis and Sarah Vaughan to Billy Bragg and Northern Soul.

Naturally drawn to London’s incendiary Rockabilly club scene, she felt the irresistible pull of black American Rhythm & Blues as a call to action, setting up her first band Tiger Lily and the Jitterbugs, with which she performed throughout the UK and Europe for several years at Jazz, Blues and rock’n’ roll festivals, clubs and events.

She also performed at many private events, including supporting Dame Shirley Bassey before Prince Charles at Highgrove.

She was the first vocalist with the 10-piece big band, Blue Harlem performing swing and jump jive.

She has sung with Richard Berry, James Hunter and Mike Sanchez, among others.

Promotors Shades of Soul Ltd said they were “delighted to host four nights of great vintage live music in the heart of Chelsea in association with Pizza Express”
