What’s On: GALA Festival at Peckham Rye Park – May Bank Holiday weekend
A festival with music genres covering house and disco to jazz and afrobeats will take place over Peckham Rye Park for the fifth year running on May Bank Holiday weekend.
GALA Festival has announced its lineup that will expand to two days for the first time and has
collaborated with curators including Gerd Janson, Job Jobse, Worldwide FM, Jayda G, Horse Meat Disco and Bradley Zero.
New York City legend François K and modern club hero Motor City Drum Ensemble headline the main stage on Sunday and Monday respectively.
While François K gets support from the likes of DJ-favourite Move D and the influential Nightmares On Wax, MCDE will be joined by Detroit’s Marcellus Pittman and boogie selector CC:DISCO.
Other main stage highlights across the weekend include Eliza Rose, Mafalda, Anu, Red Greg, Late Nite Tuff Guy and Jamie 3:26.
Job Jobse’s Strangelove party makes its UK debut on the Sunday, taking over GALA’s Stretch stage featuring rising talent DEBONAIR and David Vunk among others.
On Monday, the reins are handed to the infectiously energetic Ninja Tune-signee Jayda G who’ll be flanked by Mood Hut’s Pender Street Steppers and Rush Hour’s Antal.
On the Sunday, the Pleasure Dome stage boasts Running Back boss Gerd Janson who enlists heavyweights Roman Flügel and DJ Tennis.
Horse Meat Disco returns on the Monday for their now annual residency with Luke Solomon b2b Gideön and Prosumer while queer rave collective Little Gay Brother bring the sweat across both days.
Finally, London radio legends Worldwide FM and Rhythm Section’s Bradley Zero take charge of the Open Dome.
With Worldwide presenting a huge billing of Kornal Kovacs, Awesome Tapes from Africa, Dele Sosimi and founder Gilles Peterson on Sunday, Bradley headlines with a not-to-be-missed b2b with the effervescent MC Pinty on the Monday.
GALA festival will invite local Peckham grass-roots station Foundation FM for a one-day takeover.
A female-led platform for the city’s underground music and art, the collective make an exciting addition to the billing.
Continuing the South London thread, GALA teams up with YAM Records who are based in Peckham to host a record fair on site.
