What’s On: Japan Matsuri Festival, Trafalgar Square, London
With the Rugby World Cup 2019 just a matter of weeks away, all eyes are firmly set on Japan.
But back home a festival celebrating Japanese culture – Japan Matsuri – returns to Trafalgar Square on September 29.
A regular fixture in the London calendar, this free, annual festival brings people together to enjoy Japanese food, music, dance and activities for all the family.
Japan Matsuri begins at 10am and run until 8pm with two stages holding an exciting programme.
There will be plenty to see and do, including the chance to watch amazing displays of martial arts covering both cultural heritage and modern-day influences.
There will also be a family activity tent where visitors can try out several Japanese activities for free including manga, calligraphy and origami along with plenty of opportunities to dress up in Kimonos.
A wide selection of mouth-watering Japanese festival food will be available from a host of brightly-coloured food stalls showcasing classic Japanese street snacks such as takoyaki octopus balls, yakisoba noodles and okonomiyaki pancakes.
For those who would like something more substantial there will also be wagyu burgers, ramen, bento boxes, donburi rice bowls and sushi on offer.
For dessert, enjoy Japanese sweet treats from red-bean jam dorayaki pancakes to mochi rice cakes.
