What’s On: Light Festival, Battersea Power Station

Battersea power station will be brightening up the dark winter evenings until February 16 with four spectacular light installations commissioned by the Light Art Collection.

On display in Circus West Village, the installations will be making their UK debut at the festival which is free to the public.

Action Reaction 2.0, by Sjimme Veenhuis, is one of the installations on display.

The installation consists of a large screen with a thousand buttons that after being pressed light up in a variety of different colours like single pixels.

An interactive piece, Action Reaction 2.0 invites visitors to make patterns by themselves or together.

Talking Heads, created by Hungarian light artist Viktor Vicsek, presents two spectacular heads showing countless emotions and react to each other.

Per head approximately 4,000 individually controllable LEDs create different facial expressions in various colours.

Eternal Sundown is performed by light designer Mads Vegas and consists of approximately 140 filtered fluorescent tubes.

The artwork maintains an abstract sunset colour spectrum from sunset to dawn, spreads joy and reminds people that much needed sunlight soon returns.

This It Is, Be Here Now by Tropism Art & Science Collective is an interactive neon sign, that flashes, crackles and sparkles.

First shown at the Amsterdam Light Festival in 2014, the artwork encourages visitors to come closer with its bright colours, provoking message and loud rustling noises.

Carlin Fier, head of brand at Battersea Power Station Development Company said: “Since opening Circus West Village in 2017, it has been our ambition to turn this riverside destination into a new cultural district for London.

“The Light Festival will strengthen the art and culture offering already available at Battersea Power Station and brighten up the long winter evenings after the festive season.”
