Marc Spiegel issues statement to address social media comments – takeover process is ‘proceeding well’

Marc Spiegel has issued a statement rubbishing claims that he has lost any of the financial backing involved in his takeover bid for Charlton Athletic.

The American, who made his money in recycling, is in a period of exclusivity with Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard.

There had been rumours that Spiegel’s negotiations had hit trouble but his statement was read out at the start of tonight’s Fans’ Forum.

“Having been notified of social media comments concerning my co-funders, I wanted to be clear that the process to acquire Charlton by our team is proceeding well,” said Spiegel. “Initially, there were some third-party legal challenges, which of course we had to respect.

“We have not lost any of our investment partners.

“We very much look forward to the challenges ahead, starting with the transfer window this summer, and working with the supporters to help Charlton Athletic have a successful and secure future.”

The South London Press had also contacted Sandgaard, who denied any issues.

Sandgaard added that “everything was moving forward as planned”.
