Marco Silva: ‘Fulham deserved to beat Leeds’

Fulham boss Marco Silva believed that his side deserved all three points from their 3-2 win over Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United.

Leeds opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Spanish forward Rodrigo jumped over centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo to plant Jack Harrison’s deflected shot into Bernd Leno’s empty net.

Fulham equalised through Aleksandar Mitrovic just six minutes later when he darted towards the front post and guided Andreas Pereira’s corner past Illian Meslier.

Pereira once again turned provider in the 74th minute to give Fulham the lead when he sent a cross into the box for Bobby De Cordova-Reid to head home.

Harrison Reed then danced his way into the penalty area to set up former Chelsea man Willian to bag his first goal for the club in the 84th minute.

Leeds pulled one back through Crysencio Summerville in added time, but the west Londoners held on to claim all three points.

“It was a great win – we got three really important points,” Silva told SkySports.

“It was well deserved, in my opinion – we were the best team on the pitch.

“We knew how tough it would be to play at Elland Road, but what a game and what a comeback.

“Losing 1-0, the way my team did it was really impressive for me. They know how I trust them and they know the process and philioshpiy.

“They showed character and personality to play at this level. We had the best chances during the game.

“The players stuck with the plan and we prepared well with a plan.”

Fulham are 7th in the Premier League after their first 12 games back in the top flight since promotion last season.

“The main thing for me is that the fans can realise every single match that our players gave everything to make them proud and to win the match,” added Silva.

“The position in the table is nice when you look, but it is not the main thing for us.

“We’re not over the moon – our feet are on the ground.”
