Marcus Maddison is a player I like, but one of many – Charlton boss Lee Bowyer

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer says that free agent Marcus Maddison is a player he likes – but one of many.
The former Peterborough and Hull City winger was linked with a move to The Valley back in January, although that was halted due to the transfer embargo the Addicks were dealing with under the chaotic ownership of East Street Investments.
Bowyer has to manage his recruitment carefully, juggling the needs of the side with the necessity to stay within the new League One wage cap.
The South Londoners are reported to be interested again in Maddison and Bowyer said: “It was more than difficult [to sign him in January], it was impossible! But things have changed now. I like Marcus, we did try to sign him in January. But obviously I like a lot of people at the moment.
“There’s a lot of people that are getting thrown at us. We’ve got to make sure that we make the right decisions because we don’t have much to play with left in the budget. We have to make sure we get it right.
“We’re working hard, every hour. Now, I’ll leave the stadium and as soon as I do I’ll be on the phone to Steve Gallen and seeing if anything has developed from before the game. Two hours before the game, me and Steve had a meeting with a player and his agent before I came here, after training. Someone else we’re interested in, that we’re trying to get over the line.
“It’s not that easy we don’t have much to play with because of this cap. The cap is absolutely killing us at the moment.”
