The streets were awash with celebration, as parties took place all over the capital to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Typical of the many well-organised and heart-felt events were the ones seen here, such as at Camberwell Green, where there was a free feast, dog show, arts market and 70 stalls laid on –one for every year of Her Majesty’s reign.

Other images here were taken in King and Queen Street, Walworth; Alberta Street, Kennington; Charleston Street, Walworth and Battersea as well as in central London’s famous Carnaby Street.

In Lewisham, the Hither Green Festival launched a few weeks ago in anticipation of the big finale to the bank holiday celebrations.

Children at Chelsea Prep School, Cameron Vale, celebrated the jubilee in style with a delicious lunchtime picnic and a fun-filled afternoon of village green games.

There was also a big party at Castle Square, Elephant and Castle, while residents of Hillyard House, the retirement home in Hillyard Street, Brixton, were also eager to get in on the act.

Residents at the Sherwood Grange care home at Robin Hood Lane, Kingston Vale also enjoyed a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

They were first treated to a special visit to watch the Trooping the Colour in Horse Guards parade, central London, before later enjoying an opera performance in the home’s garden by local singer, Harry Kersley.

Ending the week in a quintessentially British fashion, the home hosted a garden party picnic, complete with sandwiches, scones and afternoon tea.

Rosemary Lester, 79, who remembers watching the Queen’s coronation on TV with her friends, aged nine, said: “In those days, not many people had a television and for most people like us we had not seen any type of ceremony like that before.

“There was huge anticipation in the family – it was all very exciting. I remember afterwards we went to the cinema to watch it on the big screen!”.

Meanwhile, children at Fircroft Primary School, Tooting Beck, designed a celebratory hoarding at The 1840, the heritage development in nearby St George’s Gardens, in recognition of the Queen’s 70 years of service.

And MA student, Xiaobin Wang, from Kingston School of Art designed a community window display in Tolworth High Street at a home improvements store, that lets you ‘take a selfie’ with her Majesty the Queen in her iconic Buckingham Palace boudoir.
