Millwall boss: No major problem that Hearts friendly is off during Scottish training camp

Millwall fly off for a short training camp in Scotland tomorrow – but their planned friendly with Hearts is off.

The Lions will be based at Oriam, which is the country’s national performance centre for sport.

Millwall were going to wrap up their stay in Edinburgh by facing Hearts. But now the Jambos have been told by the SPFL and SFA Scottish Football Joint Response Group not to return to training until August 24 at the earliest.

“We’ll probably play a game internally – it’s not a massive problem because it is our first game,” said Lions manager Gary Rowett. “You are looking at people getting 45 minutes.

“I haven’t got a massive problem with that game not being on when we have got three or four other friendlies lined up.

“It’s a slightly shorter period and we’ve got the cup game as well at the end of it that you almost class as a friendly as well that takes you into the season.

“We felt as though [Scotland] was the safest place to go – or the best place we could book and a chance of that still being available by the time we get there.

“It’s good for us to get that period of time with the players and I think they are quite looking forward to it – going away with four or five days and concentrating on football.

“I’ve been quite impressed with the way the players have come back. Sometimes when they’ve not had much time you wonder if they’ll be thinking about that. But they have come back seamlessly, didn’t complain and they are ready to work. It just highlights what a good group of players we’ve got.”
