Millwall boss provides injury update on summer signing Joe Bryan

Summer signing Joe Bryan is not set to feature for Millwall in tomorrow’s Championship fixture at league leaders Leicester City.

The 30-year-old has been sidelined since late October after coming off in the 2-1 home loss to Blackburn Rovers with a groin injury.

Bryan has made 11 appearances for the Lions after joining on a free transfer following his release by Fulham.

“Joe is closer but he probably won’t make it for Leicester,” Millwall head coach Joe Edwards told the South London Press yesterday. “That’s a call I’ve got to make tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.

“If he doesn’t make the Leicester squad then we will be looking for him to be involved, in some part, at the weekend against Huddersfield.

“It is obviously a fair amount of time out, so he won’t be starting a game this week.

“It’s a positive on Joe because at one point when I was fairly new in it looked as though his injury might be a fairly slow burner that might keep him away from any game time until the other side of Christmas.

“The fact we’re aiming for this weekend to have some involvement is a positive for us.”

Edwards knows all about the quality Bryan can provide.

“I know Joe from Fulham but the year that Tammy Abraham was on loan at Bristol City I was Tammy’s loan coach – where you get the role of following the player closely and giving him feedback,” said Edwards.

“I probably watched them play live nearly 10 times and a lot on video.

“I saw a lot of Joe at Bristol City that season. He is a player who I knew a lot of his quality well, many years ago.

“From an attacking point of view, in particular, we want to be offering more than we are. Joe can offer speed and capacity to get forward – along with the quality of his left foot – hopefully that will be a massive addition for us.”

Casper De Norre (calf) will be out until at least the back end of 2023.
