Millwall podcast host wins Rising Star award

A Millwall podcast host who honed his reporting skills with South London football clubs has won an Asian Media Award, writes Rachel Steinberg.

Aaron Paul, 28, took home the prize for Rising Star in Radio at a ceremony in Manchester.

Mr Paul, a freelance football reporter with BBC Radio 5 Live, co-hosts the popular Achtung! Podcast about the Lions.

He began as an AFC Wimbledon reporter before covering Fulham, Charlton and Crystal Palace, and credits the South London football clubs for launching his career.

Mr Paul said: “There’s a lot of pride running through me right now. I get to represent 5 Live every week, there’s no bigger honour.

“But I’m also grateful to the people at those South London clubs who have always been helpful and supportive whenever I’ve needed them.”

“It’s not easy being Asian and trying to breach this industry, but I think I’ve done alright – and others seem to think so, too.”
