£100k funding agreed to provide advice for residents of Aylesbury estate
Southwark council has approved annual funding of £100,000 for up to 10 years to provide independent housing advice for residents living on the Aylesbury estate in Walworth.
The money will be used to support anyone living on the estate, including council tenants, leaseholders and those in temporary accommodation, throughout the remaining life of the rehousing programme, expected to continue for another 10 years.
The money will go to Creation Southwark Community Interest Company, the successor organisation to Creation Trust. Creation Trust is the charity which has been working on the estate since 2007. The charity will close in April 2021 and the CIC will take over.
This new money will ensure that the work Creation Trust has been doing for the past 10 years can continue, supporting some of the most vulnerable resident on the estate.
Councillor Johnson Situ, cabinet member for growth, development and planning, said: “Creation Trust has played a vital role working with residents of the Aylesbury since 2007.
“To date over 500 residents have benefited from dedicated case work. Although the council directly funds independent housing advice services, we consider that without the services currently provided by Creation there would be a gap in support for council tenants and those in temporary accommodation on the Aylesbury Estate.
“Supporting the residents through the life of the redevelopment remains a key commitment for Southwark council and we would like to pay tribute to the excellent work of Creation Trust staff and trustees over the last 12 years.”
