11 people escape restaurant fire before blaze spread to neighbouring building
On Sunday morning, 11 people managed to escape from a restaurant fire before the blaze spread to the neighbouring property.
Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters tackled a fire in Lower Road, Surrey Quays.
Part of a ground-floor restaurant, with flats above, was damaged by the blaze.
A shed and an air conditioning unit at a neighbouring property were also destroyed in the fire.
Eleven people escaped the building before firefighters arrived and they were all assessed by London Ambulance Service crews before leaving the scene.
The London fire brigade (LFB) received eight calls about the fire.
An LFB spokesman said: “The LFB was called at around 9.15am and the fire was under control by around 10.30am.
“Crews from Deptford, Dockhead, Old Kent Road and New Cross fire stations attended the scene.”
The LFB are investigating the cause of the fire.
