11-storey block of flats in Croydon given the green light by Mayor Sadiq Khan

The 60 new flats will be built on the site of a single storey bathroom shop, Bathstore, which is now closed.

The plans were approved by Croydon Council’s planning committee in September but were sent on to the Mayor of London for consideration.

In a response last week the Mayor’s office said it is happy for Croydon Council to make the final decision on the plans.

The application was put in by The Oakwood Group and has so far attracted nearly 20 objections.

Following consultation, the applicant scaled its plans from a 12-storey block of 73 flats.

The new block would also have shop space as well as a rooftop garden.

Overall the flats will offer just three disabled car parking spaces and one car club space.

A planning statement reads: “The proposed scheme seeks to make efficient use of a brownfield site on the edge of the Broad Green local centre, which will comprise of a residential led mixed-use development with commercial floorspace at ground floor.

“The location of the site is highly sustainable…relating to the nearby public transport links that are accessible to the site, and has ready access to many local services and facilities

“The site is currently within commercial use, but is adjoined by predominantly residential uses, making it a suitable location for the development of a mixed-use scheme.”

On its website The Oakwood Group says it hopes to start work by the end of 2021.
