15 people rescued from flat fire
Firefighters rescued 15 people from a flat fire on Saturday which the brigade believes was caused by “the unsafe disposal of smoking materials”.
Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters were called to the blaze that had spread across flats on the first and second floor of a building in Edgware Road, Marylebone.
A woman was rescued from the first floor of the building by crews using a ladder. Another two women and a man were led to safety from the building by firefighters using breathing apparatus.
All were treated on the scene by the London Ambulance Service.
A further 11 people were evacuated from the fast food restaurant at the base of the building.
Flats on the first and second floor of the building were partly damaged by fire.
The brigade was first called at around 6.30pm and the fire was under control by around 8.30pm.
Crews from Paddington, north Kensington and Kensington fire stations attended the scene.
