20 people escape fire as man treated by ambulance crews
A man is being treated by ambulance crews after he escaped a fire in a four storey residential block.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire on Distin Street in Elephant and Castle.
Most of a maisonette on the ground and first floors of the four-storey residential block was damaged in the blaze.
One man escaped the maisonette before firefighters arrived and is being treated by London Ambulance Service crews for smoke inhalation.
Around 20 other people also escaped the building before firefighters arrived.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at around 8am and the fire was extinguished by around 9am. Crews from Dowgate, Soho and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the scene.
A spokesman from the LFB said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
