28-year-old appears in court charged with murder of four in Bermondsey

A man has been remanded in custody at HMP Belmarsh following a video link appearance at the Old Bailey to answer charges of murdering four people in Bermondsey.

The court heard that 28-year-old Joshua Jacques, from Catford, was found naked in a bathroom by police, prior to his arrest.

Prosecutor Oliver Glasgow QC, said on Tuesday: “Police were alerted to the possible sound of a disturbance at a residential property in Delaford Road in the early hours of the morning on April 25.

“When police arrived and forced entry to the property, they discovered the lifeless bodies of four victims inside the address.

“Denton Burke, 58, was at the foot of the stairs near the front door.

“Dolet Hill, 64, their daughter, Tanysha Ofori-Akuffo, 45, and granddaughter Samantha Drummonds, 27, were all in the kitchen. All had wounds inflicted by a knife or knives.”

Judge Mark Lucraft, QC, the Recorder of London, remanded Jacques in custody.

The defendant has been ordered to attend a plea hearing on July 19. No date has been set for a trial.

Flanked by two guards, Jacques confirmed his identity.

At his first court hearing last week, Jacques saluted his aunt in the public gallery and banged his chest twice on his way to the cells.
