Cathedral hosts summit on youth and knife crime amid killing crisis in South London

Southwark Cathedral will host a summit sponsored by the Bishops of
London and Southwark to explore what a church response could be to the serious youth violence which impacts communities and parishes across London.
The timely discussion comes after a week in which five people, all male and three of them still teenagers, were stabbed to death in South London.
The summit will focus on gaining a wider understanding of the issues across London, listening and learning from participants and the experience of on the ground organisations.
Running from 1.45-8pm, the summit will be opened by
the Bishop of Woolwich, The Rt Revd Dr Karowei Dorgu.

 Les Isaac, Director of Ascension Trust: A Church Overview
 Mike McKeaveney, Assistant Director of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education: A School’s Overview
 Leroy Logan, Retired Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police: A Police Overview.

Three Workshop sessions will follow dealing with how the churches can support those affected by serious youth violence; how they can be welcoming places for young people at risk of serious youth
violence and how the church be active to prevent serious youth violence?

The Bishop of Edmonton, Rt Revd Rob Wickham will facilitate the day and the closing worship will be
led by the Bishop of London, The Rt Revd and Rt Hon. Sarah Mullally DBE and the Bishop of Croydon,
