£3M funding pledged to end ‘loo deserts’ at Underground stations
The Mayor of London has earmarked £3million a year to fund more public toilets at Tube stations.
Green Party candidate for Mayor of London, Zoë Garbett, visited Tooting Broadway Underground station in Tooting High Street, which was labelled a “loo desert” by a London City Hall report in 2023.
Ms Garbett’s visit comes following polling which shows 74 per cent of people in the capital think there should be more toilets on the Transport for London (TfL) network.
Welcoming the new funding, she said: “For many Londoners, knowing there are clean, safe, and accessible toilets when they are travelling around can make the difference between having the confidence to get out or staying at home.”
