Alleyn’s art scores are jewel in a sparkling crown
Alleyn’s pupils welcome strong GCSE results with three quarters of grades at 9 or 8, and eight pupils recognised as national top performers in art.
Nearly half of the GCSE grades at the school in Townley Road, Dulwich, were at 9, and three quarters (72 per cent) at grade 8 or 9. Over a third of pupils gained 10 or more grades 8 to 9, and half the students gained grades 7 to 9 across all their exams.
Eight pupils were recognised by the exam board as amongst the very highest national performers in art, joining four Alleyn’s pupils recognised last week for their art A-level.
Pupils celebrating their results today include representatives for national swimming, diving, hockey and athletics in their age group.
Welcoming this year’s results, head Jane Lunnon said: “I am delighted that the hard work and enthusiasm of our Year 11s is reflected in their results today.
“The breadth of their academic interest is seen in some of our strongest ever results, including our best ever results in German over our largest-ever cohort; 100 per cent grade 9s and 8s awarded to those taking dance and 86 per cent of pupils achieving 9s or 8s in history.
“Our art pupils have excelled nationally with eight being recognised as national performers by the exam board. This follows four of our A-level Art students being recognised as national top performers last week.
“Most importantly, I want to thank every student for their diligence and commitment every day of school life. As they move into our Upper School and embark on the exciting adventure of our A Level learning and beyond, we look forward to them becoming school leaders, mentors and role models to the years below.”
