Appeal to identify ‘key witnesses’ in Southwark Tube station murder
Police are trying to trace an elderly couple who may have “critical” information that could aid a murder investigation.
A 28-year-old man died in hospital two days after being assaulted at Southwark Tube station in August.
For months, cops have been trying to identify the couple who may have “critical information” relating to the incident, but have had no success.
On Friday, the British Transport Police (BTP) released CCTV images of the pair in the hope that the public can help find them.
Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Tony Gittins, said: “We are releasing these images of two people thought to be witnesses in a murder investigation.
“I would like to stress that these people are not suspected of any criminal activity, but they may have important information that will help our investigation.
“If this is you, or you know anyone pictured, please text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 772 of 22 August.”
BTP officers were called to Southwark Underground station at around 9.30pm on August 22, after reports of an assault on the stairs.
The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, but died two days later with his family by his side.
Rakeem Miles, 23, of East Street, Southwark was initially charged with GBH with intent. Following the victim’s death, his charge was amended to murder.
